It has been revealed that Accutane and its generic counterpart Isotretinoin, both manufactured by multinational pharmaceutical company Hoffmann-La Roche and widely prescribed as acne treatments, have a risk of giving birth to deformed babies. According to the medical community on the 5th, an advisory committee of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently requested the FDA to strictly regulate the use of these drugs to prevent side effects. If you stop taking these drugs and become pregnant within a month, you could give birth to a deformed baby with serious disabilities such as brain and heart defects and mental retardation. This drug, a vitamin A derivative, is known to be very effective in treating acne as it not only reduces sebum secretion but also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects on acne bacteria, leading to cases of abuse, according to officials. However, these side effects are not properly publicized. Director Lim I-seok of the Korean Society of Dermatology (Director of Theme Dermatology Clinic) emphasized, "The drug instructions recommend contraception for at least a month after stopping the drug," and "To prevent the birth of a deformed child, it must be taken under the guidance of a specialist." |
