[Health Week] Why do adult acne often appear around the chin?
|
|
Some people link acne spots to the health of internal organs. For example, they say, "Acne around the mouth indicates a poor stomach," or acne around the chin indicates a poor uterus. However, this theory is not true. Rather, acne in each area is significantly influenced by the developmental sequence of sebaceous glands, the skin's natural characteristics, and external factors. Sebaceous glands begin developing from the forehead during adolescence and gradually move down the face. This explains why breakouts are more common in the T-zone during adolescence and more prevalent in the U-zone during adulthood. The chin and mouth are also areas where sebaceous glands are most active. Due to the frequent movements of eating, talking, and laughing, sebaceous glands are more frequently stimulated than other areas of the face. The skin around the chin is prone to fine wrinkles, and if makeup is not thoroughly washed, impurities can easily build up. Looking at actual patient skin analyzer results, it's easy to see makeup residue remaining around the chin and mouth after washing. The influence of structural characteristics cannot be ignored. The area around the mouth and chin lacks protruding bones, creating an ideal environment for acne to take root. The skin is also thicker than other areas, making clogged pores difficult to unclog, often leading to painful, hardened inflammation. To prevent chin acne, you must commit to thoroughly washing your face, including your chin. Maintaining hygiene with products that touch the chin area is also crucial. Ensure your contouring brush is free of contamination, and for men, ensure the razor is kept clean. Applying heavy makeup to cover up acne can exacerbate the problem. Avoid touching your face with your hands. It's also recommended to address the underlying causes of acne by addressing dietary and lifestyle habits. Get enough sleep, manage stress appropriately, and reduce your intake of sugar and fatty foods. If acne is not treated promptly and scars develop, the treatment costs and effort can be substantial. That's why we don't recommend using skincare to address worsening acne without treatment. Misdirected efforts can actually worsen acne and lead to scarring. If possible, the fastest and most effective way to resolve acne is to receive appropriate treatment and then manage it to prevent recurrence.
